ACROSS ISRAEL WITH UDI 10 DAYS (INCLUDES 1 DAY PETRA)                

 

 
DAY 1, Saturday: Arrival & Tel Aviv - Eilat:
• Flight Tel Aviv to Eilat
Transfer to Hotel in Eilat

Overnight in Eilat .
   
DAY 2, Sunday: Petra
Depart Eilat at approx 7:30 a.m. travelling along the Rift Valley to the Arava / Itzchak Rabin border.
• After border procedures in Israel, walk across into the Kingdom of Jordan, where you will meet the Jordanian team.
• Board the
coach, starting the ascent up the Edumea mountains and then travel north along the mountain chain till Wadi Musa,
winding around till the entrance of PETRA. Travel time from the border to Petra is approximately 2 hours.
• At Petra, the group starts its journey by foot, through the narrow Siq (Petra's famous canyon) till the Treasury, the most impressive site and trademark of Petra.
• The tour continues on to explore the theatres, houses, tombs and temples, still intact - a tribute to the Nabatean work, whereby
Petra thrived.
• A late buffet lunch is served near the visitor centre or on the main street in Wadi Musa.
• Return to the coach and and start the journey back to Eilat, stopping in Aquaba (time permitting), for a short city tour.
• Arrive in Eilat towards evening.
After dinner, an
introductory meeting for the tour in Israel to include technical information such as currency, dress code when visiting religious sites, weather forecast, routes, and some historical background information.

DAY 3, Monday: Red Sea - Dead Sea - Sea of Galilee
• Depart Eilat early morning driving along the Arava Valley, a segment of the Great Rift (the geological border between Africa and Asia).
• Pass via the desert settlements (kibbutz and moshav), known for their success in cultivating winter vegetables from the arid land.
• Continue through the desert to the Dead Sea, lowest point on earth. Travel along its shoreline, stopping at MASSADA -Israel’s foremost Archaeological Park.Ascend via cable car, for a thorough visit, that gives insight to the rituals, politics and culture of the people who inhabited this desert fortress.
• Descend to the shores of the DEAD SEA to float in the therapeutic waters. Indulge yourself in the mineral-rich black mud, known for its rejuvenating qualities, or simply relax at the spa.
Journey north via the Qumran caves, the site where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, continuing northbound along the Jordan River till the Sea of Galilee
•Dinner and overnight in the Galilee area.
   
DAY 4, Tuesday: Around the Sea of Galilee & Golan
• After breakfast, visit the “MAN in GALILLEE ” museum where a 2000 year old fishing boat is on display. It is one of an estimated 400 fishing boats that sailed on the Sea of Galilee during the time of Jesus.
Drive along the north shore of the Sea of Galilee, the stage for most of the events in Jesus’ life:
MT of BEATITUDES, the traditional site of the Sermon on the Mount;
TABGHA, the traditional site of the 'miracle of the loaves and the fish,
CHURCH OF PRIMACY, where St. Peter was reinstated.
CAPERNAUM, Jewish village of 2000 years ago that was the centre of Jesus’ messianic work.
Sail across the Sea of Galilee to experience the tranquillity and scenery little changed during the past 2000 years (sailing depends on weather conditions).
• Drive towards the scenic northern Golan Heights and on to Emek Ha Bacha, one of the major battlegrounds of the Yom Kippur War (October 1973).
Proceed through Druiz villages, descending to the Hula Valley via Banias and on to the biblical and Canaanite town of TEL DAN.
• Dinner and overnight in Galilee.
 
DAY 5, Wednesday: Upper Galilee & Northern Cities
• Travel to the Upper Galilee to visit SAFAD, centre of Kabbala and Jewish mysticism.
• Continue to ZIPPORI (SEPPHORIS), capital of Galillee in the 1st Century.
• Drive towards the coast to AKKO (ACRE), a gateway port city to the holy land during the crusader period with its intricate subterranean city of Crusader halls and sanctuaries.
• Continue to HAIFA to see the BAHAI GARDENS and a panoramic view of the city from Mt. Carmel.
Return to hotel

DAY 6, Thursday: Nazareth to Jerusalem
• Drive through the Lower Galilee to visit the village of KANA, the traditional location of the first miracle performed by Jesus and on to NAZARETH and the 'CHURCH OF ANNUNCIATION'
• Continue to MEGIDDO -ARMAGGEDON, one of the key archaeological sites in understanding the history of the holy land.
•Travel west to the shores of the Mediterranean for a visit to CAESARIA MARITIMA , Herod the Great’s masterpiece and domicile of the Roman governors, including Pontius Pilate.
• Continue to Jerusalem
•O/N in Jerusalem
 
 

DAY 7, Friday: Jerusalem Museums & Bethlehem
• Start the morning with a visit to YAD VASHEM, the Holocaust Memorial Institute with its new historical museum.
• Then on to the ISRAEL MUSEUMand SHRINE OF THE BOOK, which houses the Dead Sea Scrolls
• Drive to BETHLEHEM, (subject to local conditions) to visit the CHURCH OF NATIVITY and Manger Square.
• Drive back to New Jerusalem, stopping at the KNESSET, the Israeli parliament. .
• O/N Jerusalem

DAY 8, Saturday: Jerusalem of Gold
Jerusalem...there isn't a city in the world that evokes so much emotion, embracing... so many people....and for thousands of years.
•Start the morning driving by Mount Scopus, passing the WW1 British cemetery, Hadassah Hospital and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
•Stop atop the MOUNT OF OLI VES, for a panoramic view of the Old City, where over 3000 years of history unravels before you.
• From the Mt of Olives
descend to the GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE at the foot of the mountain and continue downward through the KIDRON VALLEY with its biblical monuments, and then up to the walled city.
Stop at the Western Wall, Judaism’s holiest site
Walk the VIA DOLOROSA (Road of Suffering), stopping at 'Stations of the Cross' along the way, till GOLGOTHA and to the Church of the HOLY SEPULCHER.
Visit the TOWER OF DAVID MUSEUM museum for the history of Jerusalem
Walk above the Roman Cardo, and exit
the walled town via Zion gate to MOUNT ZION for a visit to DORMITION ABBEY and the ROOM OF THE LAST SUPPER.
Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 9, Sunday: Jerusalem & more...
• Drive to DAVIDSON CENTRE, archaeological park of Jerusalem. http://www.archpark.org.il/panorama.shtml
• Visit the CITY OF DAVID where Jerusalem started.
• Travel to the National Park of BEIT GUVRIN, - "Land of 1000 Caves", which were carved out of the soft limestone hills and have been used by numerous civilizations for a number of purposes over the centuries.The area was a major Hellenisteic town and a
region that had cities dispersed throughout it in ancient times, linking the coastal plains in the west to the Judean Hills in the east
• Return to Jerusalem via Emek Ha Elah, location of the battle between David and Goliath

DAY 10, Monday: Departure
Free day before transfer to the airport from Jerusalem or transfer to Eilat.

The tour itinerary may be altered in the event of any unforeseen circumstances or at the tour guide's discretion.
Modest clothing (no short sleeves or shorts) should be worn when visiting religious sites.
