Akko - City & Antiquities

One of the oldest cities in Israel, first founded by the Phoenicians, Akko is best known for the part it played as a gateway port city to the holy land during the crusader period with its intricate subterranean city of Crusader halls and sanctuaries. It still retains its flavour as a fishing village and has an open-air bazaar. Also famous as the only city that Napolean tried and DID NOT SUCCEED to conquer in 1799.

Arad National - Park & Antiquities

A small city and a tel nearbye with remnants pointing to a 5000 year old thriving Canaanite city which at the time served as a major border fortress on the south part of Judea. It appears to have been more fertile, in those ancient times.

Avdat National Park & Antiquities
Avdat National Park & Antiquities Sometime during the 8th Century A.C.E., a human saga that had continued for more than one thousand years came to an end. It had begun as sprouting towns amidst the sands, and ended in degeneration, abandonment and repossession by the desert. These ancient settlements of the desert were established with great human effort and with deep knowledge of the desert. They were destroyed by a more primitive people to whom the advanced culture was unknown. The fascinating Nabatean town of Avdat is amongst these settlements, a way station of the camel caravans on the Perfume Route.

Banias National Park,Nature Reserve Park & Antiquity
At the foot of the Hermon mountain, the source of the Banias (Hermon)river, are remains of a temple in the honour of the god Pan, dating back to the Hellenistic period. Philippus, Herod the Great's son added much to the town's construction and named it Caesaria Phillipi, which is mentionned in the new testament. It was a major fortress during the crusader time, on the border of Damascus between the land of the Christians and the land of the Moslims.

A modern city of the Negev desert, with a vibrant beduin market on Thursdays. The ancient city where Abraham lived and drew water from its wells has a tel where findings from the Kingdom of Judea have been uncovered, unearthed and reconstructed

Beit Guvrin National Park & Antiquities
A network of hidden underground tunnels - this region had cities dispersed throughout it in ancient times linking the coastal plain in the west with the Judean Hills in the east. Its residents carved caves out of the soft limestone hills which have been used by numerous people for a number of purposes over the centuries.

Beit Sean City,National Park & Antiquity
Located at a crossroads between east and west, the ancient city claims 20 layers of civilization dating back to the 5th millenium BCE. Ruled by Egyptians, Romans and Byzantines, it has always benefitted from its ample water supply, hot climate and fertile soil and as one of Israel's most ancient cities, it was an affluent cultural centre and today is a modern city.

A small city, 6 miles south of Jerusalem, which is famed as being the birthplace of Jesus and King David in the bible. The Church of Nativity that was built in the 6th Century attracts Christian Pilgrims from all over the world. The city is newly under Palestinian rule struggling to gain a new sense of independance.

Caesaria National Park & Antiquities
Known as Herod's greatest masterpiece, named after Caesar Augustus, this was the largest port in the eastern basin of the Mediterranean. A walk through the national park with its theatre (still used for concerts today), stadium, palaces, aqueduct, and statues from various time periods,still standing is testament to its past glory as an intellectual center in the Byzantine times, where some of the greatest Christian philosphers worked, as well as a crusader town with impressive fortifications.

Haifa Modern Industrial City
The 3rd largest city and main port of Israel. Haifa is often compared to San Francisco, due to the way it is built on terraces into the steep slopes of the Carmel mountains. The area has been inhabited for over 100,000 years. Haifa with a mixed population, is the only major city that has public transportation on Saturdays. It is a centre with universities such as the reknowned 'Technion' and many varied museums - prehistory, music, seafaring, science, Carmelite monastary, Haifa museum, museum of clandestine immigration . The Bahai Temple and golden dome of its shrine dominate the view of the city, Haifa being a centre for the Bahai religion.

Jerusalem - Capital City of Israel, Antiquities
Holy city of 3 world religions - has a past shared by all nations, a present that is illusive and a future steeped in hope. From atop the Mount of Olives view the old city where 3000 years of history is unfolded. Walk the Via Dolorosa, visit the Wailing Wall, the Temple Mount and the bazaar. Megiddo- Armageddon National Park & Antiquity
Megiddo, located on Via Maris Road linking Egypt in the south, the coastal cities in the west and Damascus in the east. This strategic site throughout the history of Israel was the scene of many biblical battles and the place where the final battle of the world between good and evil is supposed to occur, according to Christian Theology.

Mitspe Ramon Town & Nature Reserve
Observatory and visitor's centre about the Negev mountains the Ramon Reserve, and the 'craters'. Machtesh HaGadol (Big Crater) Machtesh HaKatan(Small Crater) and Machtesh Ramon (Ramon Crater)- 3 craters in the Negev created when cracks in the mountain peaks were eroded over a long period of time, eventually opening into gigantic gorges and exposing age- old geological structures. These fossils and mollusks lived in the ancient Thetis Sea some 80 million years ago.

Qumeran National Park & Antiquities
The Dead Sea Scrolls (one of the most important archaeological finds of this century) dating back to 100 BCE, were discovered here in jars of pottery by a Beduin boy. Qumeran was a centre of the Essene civilization, a mystical Jewish sect that was the beginning of Christianity.

Petra, JORDAN
Petra ... mysterious town of Nabatean tombs, concealed in a formidable area of the Edomea Mts. After visa and passport inspection at the Arava Border from Eilat to Jordan, it is a 1 1/2 hour drive till Petra. A visit includes a journey through the narrow Siq till the Treasury, most impressive trademark of the site and a tour of its amphitheaters, houses, tombs, and temples. Return to Eilat in the evening. If continuing on till Day 2 Jordan, visit can include,Mt. Nebo, Madaba and Jerash, exiting at the Sheik Hussein Crossing.

Tiberias City on the Sea of Galilee
The town, built on the ruins of an old Jewish cemetery, was founded by Herod Antipas in approx 19 AD in honour of the Roman Emperor Tiberius. It became one of Judaism's 4 holy cities in the 4th C and is also famous for its hot springs. With the remarkable number of sites, holy to both Christians and Jews, around the Sea of Galilee Tiberias has become a tourist centre catering to these needs.

Israel's highest city, at least 2000 years old, first mentionned by Josephus Flavius as one of the Jewish settlements where torches were lit to mark holy days and the beginning of each month. Tel Aviv
Modern city, the cultural centre & pulse of the country with sidewalk cafes, modern hotels along the beaches,museums, operas, clubs & nightlife. More than half the large companies as well as a quarter of Israel's active population work here. Flights arrive at Ben-Gurion airport in nearby city of Lod and Tel Aviv has a domestic airport called Sde Dov which is in North Tel Aviv. Old Jaffa According to Christian legend named after Japhet, Noah's son, while others believe it to be derived from the Hebrew word, Yaffa (Beauty). Jaffa ancient port, existing some 4000 years ago, serving Egyptian and Phoenician sailors; mentionned in the bible as the port that the cedars from Lebanon to buid King Solomon's Temple; the city that Jonah departed from in his flight from God; home of Simon the Tanner; and associated with many more bible stories, legends and adventures in the history of Israel, is today a tourist centre known for its artist quarters, art galleries, and restaurants.

This copper mine known to the Egyptians since the 15th century BC is the oldest in the world. The site has geological wonders and statues caused by wind erosion, as well as an artificial lake.

Yotvata Kibbutz & Nature Reserve
Located 37 km north of Eilat, the Nature Reserve 'Hai-Bar' was created as a conservatory for biblical animals threatened with extinction and they are now being released back into nature. The reserve also has a predator centre. The Kibbutz, across the road is an oasis successful for its milking cows and dairy industry established in the desert. Yotvata dairy products are sold throughout the country making for one of the many kibbutz success stories.
